Cyber Monday Results Expected to be Strong According to Neilson/NetRatings Holiday eShopping Index

Cheap Web Hosting Neilson/NetRatings attributed the rise in online holiday shoppers to rising energy prices that the rating service says is straining family budgets. Small Business Hosting Heather Dougherty, senior retail analyst, Nielsen/NetRatings said, "While many shoppers headed out to the stores over the weekend, the majority first turned to the Internet to check prices and product availability."
Last year, the Monday after Thanksgiving was the peak day for online transactions, according to VeriSign Payment Services, a unit of eBay Inc.'s PayPal that processes electronic payments for about 150, 000 online merchants. Some 77% of online retailers said their sales increased noticeably that day, commerce company Shopzilla Inc. and industry group Shop.org, part of the National Retail Federation, which is calling the day "Cyber Monday."

Cyber Monday will bring additional growth in traffic for online retailers by luring shoppers to their sites through sales promotions and free shipping incentives," said Dougherty.
Web Hosting Domain Names Nielsen/NetRatings said EBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) was the top online retailer on Black Friday, with 9.5 million unique visitors, followed by Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) and Wal-Mart Stores (NYSE: WMT), which drew 4.6 million and 3.4 million unique visitors, respectively. Target (NYSE: TGT) and BestBuy.com (NYSE: BBY) rounded out the top five online shopping destinations, attracting unique audiences of 2.9 million and 2.1 million, respectively. These same retailers led the top online shopping destinations last year on Black Friday and were joined this year by Circuitcity.com (NYSE: CC), Dell Computer (Nasdaq: DELL), and Shopzilla.com Network in the top 10.
Domain Name Registration The fastest growing retail category on Black Friday was toys/video games, with a 152 percent week-over-week growth, Neilson/NetRatings said. Consumer electronics followed close behind with 142 percent growth, and computer hardware/software rounded out the top three with 102 percent growth. Overall week-over-week growth for the Holiday eShopping Index was 39 percent.
